The Jua Scholarship

I am so excited to announce the official launch of the Jua Scholarship. Our goal of the scholarship is to help provide financial support for educational fees to children currently working as waste pickers in the Dandora Landfill in Nairobi, Kenya. The children search for different materials in the landfill, such as plastics, typically earning about $1.25/day.

There are currently 24 children being sponsored ranging from 7 to 16 years old. While education is free in Kenya, there are a lot of other financial barriers that prevent children from attending such as fees for books, sitting for exams, uniforms, and lunch. By making a $125 donation, a child can go to school for a whole year. Some of the children have dreams of being doctors to cure their mom’s health conditions they acquired from working in the landfill while others dream of being teachers.

Here at Mutima we have the goal to send 8 children to school by donating a dollar from every multi-stick sold to the The JUA Scholarship. Please join us in that cause.
